8 june 2020

It was finally clear last night, and without the blustery wind we've had the last several days. Transparency was hurt by low level marine haze, and seeing was only middling until midnight. I started out at 8-inch then moved up to 20-inch as permitted. I began at around 10:30pm and observed until almost 2am, when tiredness literally made me droop as I stood on the ladder. I added new inserts to my boots and it made a big difference in preventing leg and back fatigue. I noticed the highway noise was much quieter than before. Many striking pairs. Something which impressed me was I was able to split many pairs at a relatively low power than what I normally use -- I stayed low power much of the time due to seeing -- so it's a lesson that I should try more to use a wider range of eyepieces. Watched the moon rise near Saturn and Jupiter with binoculars before closing up.
