16 June 2020

Seeing last night was too poor for large aperture, so I used the 8-inch mask throughout -- and even then seeing was a little choppy. Transparency also disappointing, the typical thin haze puddling in the Bay Area. Nevertheless a good session; started in CVn and ended in Serpens. I could have kept going past when I closed up at 11pm, but I felt a bit tired and getting more tired was not worth the conditions.

I really appreciate the new foveal coaxing technique -- it helps to hold stars with direct vision and with more certainty than averted vision alone. Really glad I read about it.

A 2000 AB: 203; 205x: Good clean split ~1", slight magnitude difference. A very pretty pair.

BU 930 AB: 203; 205x: ! With foveal coaxing the B star shines as a very small faint point considerably outside light orange A's diffraction ring. Needed finest focus to reduce A' disk size.

HU 1146 AB: 203; 205x: B star seen with foveal coaxing only, well separated, but disappears with direct vision, can't hold it

STF 1768 AB: 203; 205x: ! 25 CVn Very lovely diamond ring pair, bright white A and ~2 delta B, which is on A's first diffraction. Very nice pair. 228 year period

STF 1769 AB: 203; 205x: ! What a cool pair. Using foveal coaxing, I could bring out the extremely faint B star and hold direct, a little more than 1", sitting slightly outside A's diffraction ring. Very nice, had to work for that one.
