4 march 2020

Clear Sky Charts' forecast was for above average transparency after dark. Unfortunately it was not so. A persistent haze was left in the sky, and was brightly illuminated by a waxing moon. I watched as the forward white lights of passenger jets lining themselves up to land at the airport shown out through the fog. A disappointing night, but I persisted to make what observations I could. So Transparency 2/5, and seeing a half decent 6/10. Seeing was good enough that in the beginning of the night I was able to observe 6 Plato craterlets (D, C, A, g, B), including the one near the west rim slumped wall (e), which I think is the first time I've seen it.  It was with seeing at 333x, but it was really cool to see those.  I left my apodizing mask on throughout the doubles session, which was for 90 minutes starting at 9pm.

BU 21 AB; 508; 213x: Eta CMi: Using as a separation distance gauge for Procyon B using the 25mm with barlow. Easy bright yellowish star with a reddish much fainter B, wide. [Based on the image scale, I definitely did not see Procyon B last week.  The separation at 4" was not much wider than the thickness of the wire, but what I thought I saw on Procyon was much wider than that -- so it was probably glare.  I will update the report.]

HDS 999 AB; 508; 1067x: I detect a bluish bump on one side of the orange A star at best moments, and assume this is the B star, but I'm unsure. It is just a discoloration along the rim with a very slight bump out. Seeing is not good enough to resolve.
